Being the geek that I am, I’ve installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my iMac & MacBook Air. All was going well until I installed Warcraft 3 (the Frozen Throne expansion to be precise) on the iMac and booted it up only to find there was no sound at all.

Thankfully, a quick Google led me to this blog post, in which one clever commenter shared his method of getting the sound working again.

The solution is to download Garena, which as far as I can tell is a BattleNET replacement kind of thing. It’s free to download and sign up, at which point you can simply run/launch Warcraft 3 from within the app. I haven’t used any of the other Garena features but it does the trick in terms of getting the audio running again, and doesn’t seem to have any impact on the actual game once you’re in and logged in to BattleNET.
